What was the greatest new car of 2007?

In the build up to the new year, it’s only right to take stock. For Autocar, that means looking back over the twelve months that are currently drawing to a close, and giving thanks for the great new cars they have brought us. And this year in particular, it meant choosing five of the best cars of 2007, driving them to a foggy Welsh hillside and having a blazing row.

As part of our Class of ’07 feature, Autocar writers Chris Harris, Steve Sutcliffe, Jamie Corstorphine, Andrew Frankel, Matt Prior and Mike Duff had to chose the car they’ve been most impressed with this year, and then take it to our rendezvous point in the Welsh mountains and convince the rest of the group that it’s the best overall.

As you’ll read in Autocar magazine this week, the boys chose a Mercedes CLK63 AMG Black Series, a Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead, an Audi R8, a Lotus 2-Eleven and a Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi to argue over. Never let it be said that 2007 wasn’t an interesting year.
