The Hummer brand is set to grow in 2009 with the addition of the smallest and most affordable Hummer yet – the H4 – and Autocar can bring you the first guide to what the junior mud-plugger will look like with these official design sketches.
General Motors will show the Hummer HX concept at the Detroit show next month. It has yet to confirm many specifics about the car, but judging by these preview shots, it’s a compact, 2+2 seater 4x4 with Hummer’s trademark wheel-in-each-corner, foursquare stance, and a flat rear deck that converts into a small flatbed load bay.
The HX concept was designed by three of General Motors’ newest design recruits David Rojas, Min Young Kang and Robert Jablonski, who were briefed to create a fun, nimble and innovative 4x4. “We drew inspiration from one another,” explains Kang. “As you’re designing and sketching you try to absorb what the other designer is doing and try to make it better.”
GM also confirmed that the HX is E85 bioethanol compliant, and opens up to the elements via two removable roof panels.
