Porsche will unveil a special edition Boxster at the Bologna motor show this December.

The Boxster RS 60 Spyder has been developed to reflect Porsche's motorsport heritage, in particular that of the 1960s era when the Type 718 RS 60 Spyder won the 12-hour Sebring endurance race.

This latest special edition is based on the 291bhp Boxster S, and receives a power upgrade to 303bhp thanks to a modified sports exhaust system and twin pipes.

Porsche Active Suspension Management has also been added to improve response through the Boxster's already excellent chassis.

As you'd expect, the Boxster RS 60 Spyder receives modifications to the styling, including a new front spoiler, 19in alloys and red roof materials that match the Carrera red leather interior. For the more subdued Porsche customer, you can also get a more traditional grey leather interior and black roof.

Only 1960 examples of the RS 60 Spyder will be produced, all of which will be appropriately badged so that everyone knows you've paid £45,000 for the limited edition. Which is a good thing, because that's £5000 over a standard Boxster S, or £900 more than the sublime Cayman S.

It might be a great-looking limited edition, but the extra 12bhp needs to make all the difference against that kind of competition. We can't wait to find out if it does.
