In most car-makers’ estimations, the large people-mover is dead. Dwindling demand for the likes of the Renault Espace, Chrysler Voyager, Ford Galaxy and VW Sharan have meant that they’ve either been replaced by smaller and smaller family cars, or dropped altogether.
Well, Nissan is about to breathe some life back into the market for big MPVs with this concept car – the Forum – and, as well as fathering a better-looking successor to the US-market Nissan Quest, there’s an outside chance that it could even come to the UK, and help make large family cars desirable again.
Big and beautiful
The Forum concept will appear at the Detroit motor show in January 2008, and information on it is currently pretty thin. Nissan Design USA issued one sketch image of the car earlier this week, and a very brief press release explaining that it has been designed to “explore the next generation of family transportation.”
However, the same press release stated that the car features trackless sliding doors and no B-pillar – features that promise to contribute to a prettier exterior than we’re used to from cars of this ilk.
You can tell from the sketch itself that the Forum is no ordinary monocab, featuring a tapered grille, elongated spine-like roof bars and some heavily sculptured surfaces.
We can’t wait to find out how big it is, whether Nissan is considering building it, and if so, whether we’ll see it in the UK. Would certainly make you feel better about buying a practical car to cart the kids around in, wouldn’t it?
