It’s not big, and it’s not clever. Speeding, we mean. That’s the message that is apparently winning over Australians.

Since June, the New South Wales Roads and Traffic Authority has been running an ad campaign with the slogan “Speeding. No one thinks big of you”, in which women wave their little fingers (indicating a small penis) as male drivers speed past.

It’s a humorous approach and, according to an Australian government survey, it’s hit home. Over 60 per cent of young men said that they’d thought again about their driving habits since the ad came out.

There have been some claims of sexism – the ad clearly only targets men – but New South Wales roads minister Eric Roozendaal said “If it dents a few egos but helps save lives, then it's worth it.” Spot-on, mate.
