Car of the Year shortlist announced

The shortlist for the prestigious 2008 European Car of the Year Award has been announced this morning, and it runs like this: among the seven contenders are the Fiat 500, Ford Mondeo, Kia Cee’d, Mazda2, Mercedes-Benz C-class, Nissan Qashqai and Peugeot 308.
That shortlist of cars will now go forward to the organisation’s 58 voting journalists in 22 different countries, for the final voting process. The winner will be announced on November 19.
Missing from the shortlist of seven finalists are cars as high-profile as the Audi A5, Fiat Bravo, Land Rover Freelander 2, Vauxhall Antara, Skoda Fabia, Subaru Impreza and VW Tiguan.
COTY juror and Autocar editor-in-chief Steve Cropley said: “I’m sorry the Skoda Fabia didn’t make it, though the styling’s not so special. And I did have a bit of a soft spot for the Land Rover Freelander.”
“I can see a tight tussle developing between Ford, Mazda and Fiat for overall honours.”
