Skoda confirms SUV production

28 September 2007

Get ready for multiple sightings of the Yeti, because Skoda is putting its Yeti 4x4 into production in 2009.

As reported by Autocar in April, the new 4x4 will be have styling based on the look of the 2005 Yeti concept car (pictured), and will have unique underpinnings borrowing from both new VW Tiguan and other VW Group cars.

Skoda will make the new car in its factory at Vrchlabi in the Czech Republic, which is being modernised along with a plant at Kvasiny.

This modernisation will allow Skoda to have three major factories in its home country by 2010 – the Octavia and Fabia are built at the firm's headquarters in Mlada Boleslav.

The Yeti isn't the only new VW Group SUV on the way – Seat is planning to build a production version of the Tribu off-roader concept, shown at Frankfurt this year, and expected to be on sale in 2009.
