Speeding driver jailed for 10 weeks

24 September 2007

A 33 year-old man who pleaded guilty to doing 172mph on the A420 in Oxfordshire has been sentenced to 10 weeks in jail.

Timothy Brady was caught in a routine speed check last January whilst driving a Porsche 911 Turbo. The conviction sees Brady become the fastest speeding driver ever caught in the UK; an undesirable record that was previously held by a man caught doing 156mph in a BMW M3 in Scotland, though PC Mark Milton was caught doing 159mph in his Vauxhall Vectra but was not charged.

Speeding was not the only crime that Brady was accused of. He was charged but found not guilty of aggravated vehicle taking – a crime that involves taking a vehicle without permission and driving dangerously, or causing damage to the car or any other property.

Brady also received a three-year driving ban, and had to quit his job at a car lease firm in Abingdon days after being caught in the speed check.
