Nissan gauges fuel efficiency

21 August 2007

Stop the presses and hold the front page – all future Nissans will now come with a fuel-efficiency gauge as standard.

This revolutionary piece of technology – as seen on many BMWs and VWs since at least the 1980s – is being introduced as Nissan attempts to encourage drivers to go green, under the Nissan Green Program 2010.

The gauge will provide the driver with both instant fuel-efficiency and average efficiency readings. Nissan says that in trials, drivers drive more efficiently when they look at real-time fuel-economy readings.

While we can’t fault Nissan’s desire to encourage greener driving, we can’t help but feel that reducing weight and making more efficient cars is every bit as important.
