New Works kit for new Mini

17 August 2007

The new John Cooper Works tuning kit for the new Mini Cooper S goes on sale in September, priced at £1095 plus fitting.

The kit boosts power in the 1.6-litre turbocharged Mini from 173bhp to 189bhp, and torque from 177lb ft to 184, with 199lb ft on overboost, as in the standard car.

Mini says the car’s 0-62mph acceleration is down from 7.1sec to 6.8, and top speed up from 140 to 144mph.

Fitting of the kit, which includes a sports exhaust system, new air filter and tweaked engine management, takes about four hours.

There’s an optional ‘aerodynamic bodykit’ and 18-inch wheels, but as standard the main visual clue to a Works car is a few badges.

Mini has also just released details of its track-only JCW Challenge car, which costs £34,000.
