It's one thing being quick on the track and another thing being quick on the road, as triple F1 world champion Nelson Piquet is discovering.

The Brazilian driver has had his driving licence revoked and is being sent to driving school for speeding and parking offences.

Piquet, who is 55 in August, had apparently been speeding around the streets of the Brazilian capital, Brasilia, in a variety of cars including a BMW convertible. His wife Viviane has also had her licence revoked.

The pair must attend a week-long course on safe driving, and pass an exam.

"I think we have to pay for our mistakes," said Piquet. "It's not just a speeding problem, I got tickets for all kinds of reasons, like parking where I shouldn't."

It's not a problem from which he ever suffered in Formula One. Unfortunately Piquet's son, Nelson Junior, won't be around to give his folks a lift – as Renault F1 test driver he's currently in Budapest ahead of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix.
