Ford has released a few – precious few – more details about the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover.

The most significant detail is that Ford is "exploring in greater detail the potential sale of the combined Jaguar Land Rover business". That means that the two British car makers will be sold together, not separately.

A Ford spokesman said that the company is "pleased with the positive expressions of interest in the business… and in the strength and quality of the interested parties."

Ford has underlined that it has responsibilities not just to employees but also to local communities – which augers well for workers at Jaguar and Land Rover.

No final decisions have yet been made, but Ford clearly now has a much better idea of who will buy Jaguar and Land Rover.

At the same time, Ford said that it is undertaking a "strategic revision of Volvo," which strongly suggests that the Swedish car maker is also still up for sale.
