On video: driving Ford's tougher future

23 July 2007

It’s big, it’s blue, it’s got a V8 engine raucous enough to make the ground shake, and Autocar has driven it; that’s Ford’s Interceptor concept, the American firm’s butch-looking saloon car shown at the Detroit motor show earlier this year.

What’s more, you can watch news editor Dan Stevens pilot the two-tonne Ford around its Rouge factory, near Detroit, on video. Stevens travelled to the States last week to drive the Interceptor; watch his exclusive video report by clicking here.

“This car holds the promise of a new future for Ford, “ writes Stevens, “it exists to show what the firm could do with a boldly styled rear-wheel drive saloon. And it makes a Chrysler 300C look, and sound, like a Morris Marina.”

“So when is it going to be built? The answer could be sometime around 2011 or 2012, when it will also signal the arrival of a new Mustang coupe and a new family of rear-wheel drive cars.”
