Big Mac, fries and biodiesel to go

02 July 2007

Would you like biodiesel with that?

Fast food chain McDonald's is converting its entire UK lorry fleet to run on biodiesel made from the firm’s own used cooking oil.

McDonald’s said that by 2008 all 155 delivery vehicles will run on the fuel. Initially, 45 Hampshire-based lorries will be converted to run on biodiesel.

The new fuel is made from a combination of used cooking oil and rapeseed oil, and was successfully trialled in 2006.

There are no plans yet to offer customers biodiesel with their Happy Meals.
