Veyron-crasher gets 9 points, big bill

02 July 2007

The man who crashed his brother’s Bugatti Veyron in Surrey in March has received nine points on his driving licence, and a £400 fine. The bill for repairing the Veyron, on the other hand, is likely to hit six figures.

Ajay Soni lost control of the car when accelerating out of a bend on Renfree Way in Shepperton. The Veyron collided with a Vauxhall Astra coming the other way, sending both cars into a spin.

Soni admitted that he was driving too quickly. "He accepts he accelerated far too quickly for the road conditions,” said his lawyer, Anthony Wilcken. “There was some standing water on the road and the weather was described as atrocious with lots of spray and the visibility was very poor.”

No one was seriously injured in the crash, though we suspect that Mr Soni’s brother, who took delivery of the car just eight days before the accident, may have been tempted to cause some injury to his sibling.
