Jaguar's new breed of upmarket models will swap the marque's traditional J-gate gear selector for a circular gear selector inspired by the dial selectors used in the BMW 7-series, Mercedes S-class and Audi A8.

And here's the proof. One of Autocar's spy photographers snapped the new gear selector, called JaguarDrive, in an XF mule out on the development circuit.

Autocar can also reveal that the new automatic gearbox, a six-speed ZF system similar to the one already found in the XK, will feature in the facelifted XK and XKR coupes, both due at the end of 2007, before being fitted to the new XJ at the end of the decade.

You'll see pictures of the new look XK in our gallery. It looks like the coupe is in line for more aggressive front valance styling, among a few other revisions.
