These are the first official pictures of Kia’s facelifted Picanto compact hatchback, which goes on sale this summer.

An all-new front end sports much more rounded headlamps than the current car, and a grille lifted from the Cee’d. At the rear the light clusters have been given rounded surfaces.

The new bumpers mean the Picanto is 40mm longer than the old car, but the car's wheelbase is unchanged, so there's no chance of any extra cabin space.

The biggest changes are inside, however, where the car gets a significantly upgraded dash, using the Cee’d’s instruments and switchgear, and a new steering wheel.

Engine choices remain the same – 1.0-litre and 1.3-litre petrol units; there’s still no sign of Kia’s three-cylinder diesel.
