VW gives Golf Plus the Dune treatment

24 May 2007

Volkswagen's Golf Plus is to receive the same roughty-tufty off-road styling treatment as the Polo Dune.

The exterior styling of the new Golf Plus Dune includes plastic wheel arch and bumper extensions, plastic body rubbing strips, plus a higher ride height and new alloy wheels.

As if this weren't enough to have you rushing down to the nearest dealership, you also get leather clad steering wheel, handbrake and gear knob, as well as air-conditioning and automatic windscreen wipers.

Only 400 examples of the Golf Plus Dune will be produced, all fitted with the 1.9-litre TDi engine. As with the Polo Dune, this macho Golf Plus will be hardly more effective off road than a standard front-wheel drive hatchback, as it utilises the same running gear as the standard car.

However, priced at £18,495, the Dune edition costs only £1618 over the standard Golf Plus before it's had the option boxes ticked, making it good value for all those luxury extras.

So if you need a slightly more spacious hatchback to cover some extra-tall sleeping policemen, the Golf Plus Dune is waiting in a showroom near you now.
