The small Saab has got a new face, but thankfully it’s been saved the ignominy of getting the Dame Edna Everage look sported by the facelifted 9-5.

Instead, the 9-3 gets a front that’s influenced by Saab’s glamorous Aero X concept car, with a more prominent grille than before.

The redesigned car now gets a classic Saab ‘clamshell’ bonnet, which means the wings have also been changed, as have the doors.

Saab also says that the rear of the car has been tweaked, though it hasn’t released any images to show it.

Saab hasn't released details of the drivetrain yet, but it is thought that the new 9-3 will also get four-wheel drive - test cars have been spotted with extra driveshafts running to the rear. The interior of the 9-3 remains unchanged – it was updated in late 2006.

All three 9-3 models – saloon, estate and convertible - get the new look. The revised cars arrive in the UK in the autumn.
