The budget Renault Dacia Logan is to go on sale in South America next month badged as a Nissan.

Renault bosses reckon that the brand is already well established in the area, so it makes sense to sell the Logan as a Nissan.

South American Logans are being built at a factory in Brazil, with a capacity of 100,000 cars a year.

While Renault-Nissan works as one company on many products, they generally avoid swapping badges, although it’s more common on their range of commercial vehicles.

The Logan’s been a huge success in Eastern Europe, India and Russia. We can’t help but feel it would be a hit in the UK as well, but Renault has no plans to bring it here.

Skoda is also said to be planning a budget rival to the Logan, in a return to the kind of cars for which it was once best known.
