Hyundai unveiled this bold little concept car at the Seoul motor show. Named the Veloster – a juxtaposition of the words 'velocity' and 'roadster' – the show car comes as a strong hint towards the look of the next Hyundai Coupe, due in 2009, and if it's to be believed, we should expect an innovative design and some neat detailing of the next cut-price coupe.

The Veloster coupe sports is a two-door two-plus-two with the profile of a liftback coupe, a solid panoramic glass roof that stretches from the boot lip to windscreen, and styling that evokes recent concept cars like the Mazda Ryuga, Audi Shooting Brake and VW IROC.

Wide wheel arches, a centrally-placed exhaust and a gaping grille all suggest sporting potential – something the current Coupe has many pretences towards, if little actual ability. Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre turbo engine, mated to a five-speed robotised manual gearbox.

The interior is pretty radical too, featuring red backlighting, retro radio dials and a built-in iPod dock.
