Jaguar's Browns Lane site is sold

28 March 2007

Jaguar has finally sold the bulk of its historic Browns Lane site in Coventry.

The luxury car maker's use of the 117-acre site has gradually been reduced over the past few years, with production of cars moving to Halewood and Castle Bromwich, and the firm’s headquarters to Whitley in Coventry. Production of the old XK stopped at Browns Lane in 2005.

Browns Lane has been sold to Australian developer Macquarie Goodman, which intends to turn the site into a business park, with offices and warehousing. It reckons on creating 1500 jobs.

However, Jaguar hasn’t sold all of the site – 17 acres have been kept, including the wood veneering facility, which employs around 400 staff.
