Production of cars has started today (27 March) at Nanjing Automotive, the Chinese company that bought the remnants of MG.

Nanjing says it is now building the TF roadster and the ‘MG7 series’, better known to us as the ZT saloon, at its plant in Nanjing.

The plant uses a combination of new Chinese equipment and machinery imported from the former MG Rover site at Longbridge. Nanjing also intends to restart limited assembly of the TF roadster at Longbridge.

Nanjing Automotive says that Longbridge will also be the firm’s research and development base, though there’s little sign of anything happening at the decaying midlands site.

Both the TF and the MG7 appear to be little altered from when they were made in the UK, even down to the Union Flag on the cars’ flanks.

The cars will be priced from around 180,000 to 400,000 yuan - £12,000 to £26,500.
