It's not often that a concept lives up to its pre-show hype, but the new Artega two-seater coupe seemed to.
Penned by ex-Aston designer Henrik Fisker, the German-made Artega won a lot of appreciative comment, not least for its adroit styling details (clock the Ferrari Dino-style scoops above rear wheelarches).
The Artega was also praised because it has carefully avoided being labelled a supercar. It’s powerful and light, comprising carbonfibre panels over an aluminium spaceframe, but also compact (about MX-5 size) and priced below the Porsche 911 at around £50,000.
As well as Fisker, Artega’s strong creative team now includes ex-BMW, ex-Maserati master engineer Karl-Heinz Kalbfell.
Power comes from a mid-mounted 3.6-litre V6 from VW, producing 300bhp. Production, which will be by component supplier Paragon, is planned for 2008, once a dealer network has been established.
