This is the all-new Mazda 2 supermini, to be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March, and even from these first photos it's clear that it will blow its dowdy predecessor into the weeds.
While the old Mazda might have won favour for its interior space and comfort, it wasn't the most stylish of superminis, and didn't exactly set the pulse racing.
The new 2, however, "represents the progression of Mazda’s Zoom-Zoom brand promise" – meaning it's a whole heap more stylish (see our gallery photos for two more angles), and should be even better to drive. We're hopeful for its handling because underneath the new 2 is the platform for the next Ford Fiesta, which Mazda has been developing for the Blue Oval, and which will go on to serve as the mechanical basis of many other small cars within Ford's global product network.
There's no word yet on pricing or specification, but with a car park full of impressive new rivals such as the Skoda Fabia and Vauxhall Corsa, expect it to be highly competitive.
