Subaru diesel to chug into Geneva show

08 February 2007

It isn't quite as exciting as your average Subaru picture, which generally involves an Impreza at full pelt, but this is our first glimpse of Subaru's long-awaited flat-four diesel engine.

The new engine, which will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March, will be the world’s first horizontally opposed turbodiesel engine. Like Porsche, Subaru uses flat 'boxer' engines because they can be made more compact than normal upright engine, and help keep a car's centre of gravity low. The new engine will first be used in the Legacy from 2008.
