Here's proof that the new Ford Mondeo is staying faithful to the styling of the concept shown at Paris in September 2006.

No amount of wavy black lines can disguise the shape of this estate, undergoing cold-weather testing near the Arctic Circle. Without the show-car's body kit the new Mondeo looks a little dowdy, but it still makes today's car look instantly dated.

Perhaps most noticeable is the size of the wheels, this wagon looking like it's running on castors. Standard wheel sizes are 16, 17 or 18 inches, though customers will be able to recreate some of the concept's cool look with optional 20-inchers and bodykit.

Expect Ford's latest family car to be great to drive – it's based on the same underpinnings as the excellent S-Max. We'll let you know when we get behind the wheel in a few months' time.
