Yeeehaw! This chunky gun-slinging, tobacco-chewing machine unveiled at the Detroit motor show today is the Jeep Trailhawk concept, and along with a macho name and macho looks it promises macho off-road ability.

Still, you can't really see Jeep ever making a soft, curvy, feminine car, let alone anything for the urban metrosexual (whatever that might be). Even the forthcoming new Compass and Patriot – which are based on the humble Dodge Caliber – have rugged looks and four-wheel drive.

But the Trailhawk isn't all macho posturing – it is based on the new Wrangler platform, and claims to combine the rugged appeal of the Wrangler with a little dose of luxury from the Grand Cherokee. That means better cruising refinement, higher quality materials inside and a little bit of show, which on the concept comes in the shape of 22-inch wheels.

There's no word on the likelihood of production, but the Trailhawk's production-car foundations give it a fighting chance.
