Here's the proof that Dodge is sticking pretty close to the Avenger concept with the production model, due within the next 18 months.
This prototype, spied by our photographers, is a pretty good match for the concept that made its debut at the Paris motor show back in September. In particular, it's good to see that the distinctive crease around the C-pillar has survived production testing. The show car's plunging valances and bootlid spoiler are clearly absent from this mule, just as you'd expect of mid-range model; the important thing is that, even in run-of-the-mill production model form, the Avenger will clearly offer a bold, eye-catching aesthetic.
A replacement for the Stratus, the Avenger is a crucial car for Dodge, but it is the sum of parts from a variety of sources. It shares a platform with Chrysler and Mitsubishi, and its engine line-up could include a VW-sourced diesel alongside V6 and 2.0- and 2.4-litre four-pots.
