Todt appointed Ferrari CEO

25 October 2006

Ferrari's post-Schumacher era has been kicked into life by the appointment of Jean Todt as Chief Executive Officer.

Former rally navigator Todt is widely recognised as the manager behind the revival of Ferrari's Formula One team in the late nineties. He brought Michael Schumacher to the operation and masterminded the technical line-up of Rory Byrne and Ross Brawn.

Todt's appointment and the promotion of Ferrari's Vice General Manager Amedeo Felisa to the board are likely to signal a host of managerial changes, particularly in the racing team. Most significantly, it appears to contradict earlier rumours that Todt would retire when Schumacher decided to stop racing.

However, it is not yet known how Todt's appointment will affect his day-to-day work pattern. Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo had already given him control of road car production - the new title is probably designed to mark his move away from the F1 team and into a more general role.
