The baby Roomster

20 September 2006

Meet Skoda's little bundle of joy, the Joyster, a Fabia-sized concept that makes its debut at the Paris motor show.

Essentially a shrunken version of the new Roomster MPV, Skoda says the Joyster shows future design directions for the company.

There's certainly a resemblance to the Roomster, with black A-pillars and tower rear lights giving it a familiar look, but the smooth door tops differentiate it from the asymmetrical sides of the bigger MPV.

The original Fabia used the Polo's new platform before the VW went on sale, and it is likely that the next small Skoda – due next year – will do the same. This time, however, Skoda is exploring options for further niche models rather than just a new supermini. A mini-MPV would give the Czech firm a rival for cars like the Vauxhall Meriva.

More details are expected at the Paris show next week; we'll keep you updated.
