JCB to buy Jaguar? Don't rule it out. The digger manufacturer's boss, Sir Anthony Bamford, has urged Ford to sell the troubled car firm to him.

Buoyed by his team's success at setting a new Diesel Land Speed Record, Bamford said he would be interested in acquiring Jaguar "if the price was right". "It's a shame what's happening to British engineering and what's happened to Jaguar," he said. "They should sell it to me."

Bamford added: "We've got the engineering talent and the right people". But when asked if he would consider developing a new Jaguar from scratch, he said, "I have enough trouble building diggers."

Ford has not publicly stated that Jaguar is for sale, but it is undergoing a review of its premium line-up. Jag had been tipped to be sold to Hyundai after the Korean manufacturer showed interest, but its bosses have since admitted that they are focusing efforts on expanding production overseas instead of acquiring new brands.
