Meet the new Skoda Octavia Scout - it doesn’t wear a woggle, but it does have its junior off-roading badge.

The Scout is based on the standard Octavia estate 4x4, with no alterations to the Haldex 4x4 system, just an extra 16mm hike in ride height, making it 56mm higher-riding than the front-drive Octavia estate.

There’s plenty of black plastic cladding to give the Scout its pseudo-SUV look, plus a sump guard and skidplates to protect it from off-road scrapes. Seventeen-inch alloys are standard, while inside the Scout gets special upholstery and a passenger grab handle on the dash.

Engine choice is restricted to the most powerful diesel and petrol units in the range – the 2.0 TDI with 137bhp and the 2.0 FSI with 148bhp, both driving through a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Scout makes its debut at September’s Paris Jamboree, sorry, motor show, with prices expected to start at around £17,500 when it goes on sale next year.
