Kia clearly thinks that apostrophes are no obstacle to increased market share - its new rival for the Golf and Focus will be called cee'd.

The Korean manufacturer revealed the look of the C-segment challenger just before the London Motor Show. But it has now confirmed that it will use the same name as the original concept that contributed many of its styling cues.

Is there a reason behind cee'd? You bet there is. According to Kia's European vice-president Jean-Charles Lievens, "The CE symbolises that this model is made in the European Community and the ED indicates this car is a European Design, created especially with European consumers in mind." Quite...

Personally, we'd have preferred the car to incorporate even more of the stylish concept's looks instead of its name, but the cee'd should still mark a step forward in quality and sales for Kia when it hits showrooms at the end of the year.
