Remember what it was like to be 18 years old and driving your first car? How would you have felt if you’d been told you couldn’t drive it after 11 at night? That’s what insurance company More Than is suggesting, as part of a new policy that gives younger drivers a 40 per cent discount if they agree not to drive at night.

More Than inserts a tracking device inside the insured vehicle to monitor when it is used – if the driver breaks the 11pm to 6am curfew, they are charged £25.

The policy has been created because statistics show that 40 per cent of accidents involving 18 to 25-year-olds accidents between 11pm and 6am result in death or serious injury, while this figure drops to 20 per cent outside these hours.

More than reckons that its policy should help reduce the number of night-time accidents. However, even with savings of up to £300, it will only take 12 night-time excursions for a driver’s savings to be lost.

We’re all up for saving money and lives, but can’t think of any 18 to 25-year-olds who would be happy to have an 11pm curfew.
