Citroen's forthcoming C4 MPV has been inadvertently revealed on internet auction site eBay.

The pictures released are of a 1/43-scale model that is for sale. The photos give a clear indication of the car's styling, with high-set rear lights like those on the C4 hatch and a deep windscreen that extends into the roof.

The new MPV is due to be launched at the Paris motor show in September, with UK sales expected to start in the new year. Sources suggest that Citroen has yet to decide whether to use the Picasso name for the new car. It could just be called the C4 MPV - but Citroen might decide that the Picasso moniker is a strong enough sales proposition to use on this larger vehicle.

The current Picasso will stay on sale anyway as a budget model, while the C4 MPV will be more upmarket - prices should start at around £16,000. It is also expected to have seven-seat option, with a folding third row as in the Vauxhall Zafira and Ford S-Max.

The model is sold as a 'sample' and is unboxed. Bidding was up to $22.50 - about £12 - at the time of writing.

Citroen isn't the first manufacturer to trip up over die-cast model production. Earlier this year, the look of Aston Martin's DBS was revealed at a toy fair.
