This is the latest incarnation of Mitsubishi's legendary Evo - the FQ-360, which will be officially launched at next week's British motor show.

Developed by Ralliart, the FQ-360 is designed to sit on top of the Evo range, but to provide a more driveable package than the ultra-extreme limited-edition FQ-400. Engineers introduced a high-pressure fuel pump and a high-flow catalytic converter, both of which were employed the FQ-400. But the ECU has been remapped so the engine produces 366bhp at 6887rpm, and 363lb ft of torque at 3200rpm.

Although the car is designed to be more user-friendly than the 400, the FQ-360 still hits 60mph in 4.1 seconds and it can reach a top speed of 160mph.

Externally the FQ-360 features a carbon fibre front lip spoiler and a 'shark's teeth' roof spoiler. It is also fitted with new Speedline five-spoke alloy wheels that hark back to the asphalt-specification Lancer rally car.

Inside, kit includes climate control, electric windows all round, a category 1 alarm system and four airbags. The FQ-360 also uses the oddment space under the stereo for a 'Ralliart Sports Meter Kit', comprising three dials to show battery voltage, oil temperature and boost pressure.

The FQ-360 is on sale now, with first deliveries in September. Its price, while cheaper than the eye-watering FQ-400, is still a chunk beyond the regular Lancer/Impreza battleground, at £35,504.
