Audi engineers have revised the new TT so heavily that it is not only a rival for BMW's Z4, but also Porsche's Cayman S. That's the verdict from Autocar's first drive of the car, printed in this week's magazine and now available here at Autocar.co.uk.
We tested the 3.2-litre S Tronic quattro, and found that better balance (achieved through greater use of aluminium at the car's front end) has made the new TT a much more involving drive that its predecessor.
There's no drop-off in interior quality either - although the dash is based on the original model's, top-notch materials mean that it's still a pleasant place to be. And the high flanks make you feel just as cocooned as in the first-generation TT.
On the downside, even a longer wheelbase hasn't improved the TT's rear legroom much, and its speed-sensitive power steering offers poor feedback when pushing hard.
