Jeep is throwing a hefty specification at two special editions of its Cherokee and Grand Cherokee – and cutting the price to boot.

Bemusingly named the ‘Predator’, the two editions weigh in at £29,990 for the 4.7-litre V8 Grand Cherokee (the 3.0-litre diesel costs the same) and £15,990 for the 2.4-litre Cherokee. Neither promises revised driving dynamics – something of a worry when the Grand Cherokee was our worst car of 2005 – but the kit list is designed to make up for that.

The Grand Cherokee Predator is based on the Limited model, so it includes heated memory seats, a tyre pressure monitor, rain sensitive wipers and a decent stereo. But it costs £3000 less than a Limited.

The Cherokee Predator is based on the Sport and includes air conditioning, privacy glass and a CD player. But its price undercuts the Sport by over £2000.
