Nissan's new Micra C+C goes on sale on November 14 priced at just £13,150, undercutting entry-level versions of both the Vauxhall Tigra (£13,750) and Peugeot 206CC (£13,495). Like its costlier rivals the Micra boasts an electric folding roof, but the Nissan is unique in its class in having an all-glass canopy.

The roof is electrically operated and will fold down in 22sec, from stationary or walking pace. When up, it features a retractable sunblind to cut glare. The glass is also thermally insulated to prevent excessive build-up of heat within the cabin.

Power for the C+C comes from a choice of 1.4- or 1.6-litre petrol engines, developing 87bhp and 109bhp respectively. Nissan claims that both engines will provide a combined fuel economy in excess of 42mpg. Transmission comes from five-speed manual 'boxes, with the option of a four-speed automatic for the 1.4.

Luggage space, often the achilles heel for this class, is 457 litres with the roof up, more than current Micra hatch, dropping to 255 litres with the roof down. Standard equipment on the base Urbis trim includes 15-inch alloy wheels, electric windows, sex speaker CD player, sports seats and trip computer. Sport trim adds 16-inch alloys and manual air conditioning, with the range-topping Essenza trim adding climate control, heated leather seats, Alcantara door trim, six-CD autochanger and ESP to the package.
