Suzuki has released full details of its all-new second generation Grand Vitara, with its 15 September launch date drawing near. At launch a choice of 104bhp 1.6-litre three-door or 138bhp 2.0-litre five-door petrol models will be available. A Renault-sourced 1.9-litre diesel boasting 221lb ft of torque is also due to arrive in the five-door by the end of the year, while a flagship V6 powered by an all-new 2.5-litre petrol engine is also in development. Prices will start at £12,699 for the 1.6 three-door and £15,499 for the 2.0 five-door, an increase of around £500 over the ageing current model.

The restyled Grand Vitara is longer and wider than its predecessor, with more pronounced curves giving a sportier appearance. Inside, the larger dimensions bring increased legroom and reclining rear seats, with standard cabin equipment including climate control, CD player, remote central locking and front electric windows.

Both three and five-door models feature permanent four-wheel-drive, although the three-door lacks a central differential lock making it more biased towards the road. The five-door, however, is designed to live up to its predecessor's ability in the mud and, although featuring monocoque construction, sports a built-in ladder frame to aid off-road agility.
