Lambo's latest monster hits the road

01 July 2005

Our spies recently caught the revised Lamborghini Gallardo out and about in Germany, now an Autocar reader has caught a refreshed Murciélago on the road in Italy with just mild disguise.

Like the Gallardo’s, the Murciélago’s facelift is kept minor with only revised front and rear valances and new sills complete with dramatic air intakes. But what lies behind these air intakes is rather more significant.

The current car’s 570bhp V12 is derived from a unit that first appeared in the Miura 40 years ago and has now reached the limit of its development. Lamborghini’s engineers have been hard at work on an all-new V12 for the Murciélago. Expect at least 600bhp, 30bhp more than the current car’s and 50bhp ahead of the uprated 550bhp Gallardo, driving all four wheels.

Insiders say the new model is due before the end of the year.
