Audi has revealed three new cars at the Frankfurt show, including the R8 e-tron and 2.0TDI A1

Audi’s first electric car - the R8 e-tron shown at the Frankfurt motor show - is on course to go on sale at the end of 2012.

Its four electric motors produce a combined 313bhp and 3319lb ft at the wheels – or 502lb ft in real world terms. Up to 1000 will be sold at an estimated price of £150,000.

The facelifted Audi RS5 - also at the show - now has an electric power steering system that helps reduces emissions by up to 7g/km of CO2, taking it to 245g/km.

Electro-hydraulic damping will no longer come as standard either, but will be offered with other options in a Sport package. Revised prices will be announced when it goes on sale in January.And Audi also revealed a 2.0-litre diesel version of its A1 supermini In Frankfurt. On sale in October, 0-62mph will take 8.2sec, with official economy of 68.9mpg.

Available in Sport trim upwards only, deliveries will begin early in 2012 – around the same time as the five-door A1 goes on sale.
