Global Small Concept “combines compact size with affordability and fuel efficiency”

This is Mitsubishi’s all-new Global Small Concept, revealed at today’s Geneva motor show.

The GSC is a crucial car for Mitsubishi, because it will become the successor to the firm’s bread-and-butter model, the Colt. Company sources claim the neat five-door “combines compact size with affordability and fuel efficiency”.

The concept has seating for five adults, and will be offered with petrol engines ranging in size from 1.0 to 1.2 litres. It will also feature regenerative braking and stop-start, ensuring CO2 emissions “in the mid-90g/km range”, according to Mitsubishi engineers.

A sleeker exterior profile, lighter powertrain, chassis and body, and optimisations to the CVT transmission, brakes and tyres also contribute to the greater efficiency.

The production version of the car is due by March 2012. It will be built at Mitsubishi’s new factory in Thailand.
