Firm looks to rapidly increase dealer network to help sell its new MG3 and MG6 models

MG Motor is looking to open 45 new dealerships in the UK to help sell its new range of models, including the MG6 and MG3.

The firm has 38 dealerships selling its TF roadster at present and is in talks with 25 prospective dealers over opening dealerships in “45 key open points in various regions of Britain”.

Franchise and dealer manager David Martin said an initial 10 to 15 new dealers would be appointed within the next few months. The first deliveries of the Focus-sized MG6 hatch are expected in the spring, while the MG3 supermini could follow in 2011.

MG Motor’s Chinese parent company SAIC has also posted record sales figures for 2010, selling 3.58 million units, a rise of 31.5 per cent over 2009.

Sales of its MG and Roewe brands totalled 160,000 units in 2010, a rise of 77 per cent over 2009.
