Las Vegas launch for all-electric Focus before a motor show debut in Detroit next week

The first picture of the forthcoming Ford Focus EV has been released on Facebook.

The Focus EV will be launched at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics show on Friday, before moving on to the Detroit motor show next week.

Ford says that by launching at the Consumer Electronics Show instead of Detroit it hopes to capture a new audience that will admire the EV not only for its engineering credentials, but also as an innovative piece of technology.

The EV uses the same chassis as Ford’s 2012 Focus, meaning that Ford can avoid the usual costs associated with creating a bespoke design.

The EV is expected to be powered by a 23kWh lithium ion battery capable of giving the car a 100-mile range between charges, the same as the Nissan Leaf.
