MG has revealed the first right-hand drive, production-quality MG6 assembled in the UK

A revitalised MG Motor is closing in on the UK launch of the MG6 hatch after it revealed the first right-hand drive, production-quality car assembled in the UK.

The Focus-sized, five-door MG6 is officially on sale next January with deliveries scheduled for March and prices tipped to range between £16k - £20k. A four-door follows in early 2012.

Part-designed in the UK, the MG6 will be powered by a 147bhp 1.8 turbo and is said to be capable of 120mph and 0-62mph in around nine seconds.

The engine is a third-generation version of Rover’s K-series, now re-named N-series, re-engineered with better cooling, lubrication and head gasket.

Chinese-owned MG Motor is shipping knockdown kits of the MG6 to Longbridge for assembly into finished cars.Read Autocar's exclsuive first drive of the MG6

This is a bit of a cynical trick that some manufacturers do, by stating the BHP at the flywheel which is an untrue and an inflated figure.

Rover used to badge them up as 160bhp when in fact they tended to be about 140 ish at the crank under load.

Please understand I am not picking on Rover for this as its common practice amongst a few car makers.

Sorry to drag this one up again but as usual with the doubters, you have it the wrong way around.

A car makes more bhp at the crankshaft (or flywheel) than it does at the road wheels, the car you are possibly refering to is the Rover 25 gti it had approx 148 bhp.

The MG ZR 160 had around 158/160 bhp at the crank, probably 12 to 15%ish less at the roadwheels like every other car on the road.

Autocar and What car are the only ones I read, yet Autocar make a mistake by saying the MG6 engine has 148BHP, no it has 160BHP, even the old K-series has 158BHP

Orders will be taken in February I think and deliveries in March. I was told by my friend who talked to the MG team at the show, I am going the NEC show next Sunday so I will get more info. Prices are between £16,000 to £20,000, there are two models. 'SE' and 'TSE'. TSE being the higher spec with 18" alloys [instead of 17], reverse parking aid with camera, leather sports seats, driver and front pass leccy seat adjust, one touch up & down feature on rear leccy windows, Automatic electronic dual zone climate control, Sat Nav and full colour display.

Colours available: White, Black, Silver, Blue, Grey, Red and Burnt Orange.

That is what my friend said, it was in his brochure he had, I will try and get one next week, pre-release brochure not a proper formal one.

I'm MPH-ing on Friday so hopefully I'll be able to get some more info too... I hear they're showing the supermini there too...

Yes they are showing the MG ZERO Concept, and a TF, MG6 SE and MG6 TSE (basic and top of the range), engineers, sales and marketing etc are all there talking questions, I am going on Sunday, can't wait.

EDIT: January you can order MG6 and deliveries will be in March.
