Geneva 2011 launch for new estate with "class-leading style, standard kit and CO2 emissions"

Hyundai is going for style over practicality with the launch of its new i40 estate.

The i40 estate, caught testing in these spy images, will be sold on “class leading style, equipment and CO2 emissions”, according to a Hyundai insider.

The i40 will be launched as an estate model first at the Geneva motor show next spring and the saloon model will follow six months later.

Our source said the estate would be a similar size to the VW Passat and would not be as large as the Ford Mondeo or Vauxhall Insignia, nor would it rival these two for load capacity.

Instead the firm is pitching the car on its style and standard equipment levels, which are tipped to be the most generous in the segment.

The launch engine will be a downsized 1.7 diesel, available in several power outputs. Hyundai claims the diesel’s low CO2 emissions will also be class leading and in “the low 100s”.

A larger 2.0 diesel engine was considered for the car, but Hyundai claimed it was too big for this model and would go against the current industry trend for downsizing.

Sales of the estate will follow shortly after the Geneva launch and prices would be around £2000-£3000 cheaper than the equivalent Mondeo models.

another pointless remark! it may not be for you or for me for that matter but it might be right for someone else! i personally think Hyundai and Kia have came on remarkably well from the offerings they were giving us a few years ago
