Enterprise to rent Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf electric car will become part of Enterprise rent-a-car’s US fleet with the rental company hoping to run 500 cars by January 2011.

Starting this Autumn, the car rental company will install charging stations at 100 different locations in 30 cities across the US.

The cars will be added to the company’s fleet in eight cities including San Diego, Nashville, Phoenix and Los Angeles.

Enterprise also pledged to buy electric vehicles from other car makers when they become available. Nissan plans to begin selling the Leaf in December in limited markets in the US.

Lee Broughton, director of sustainability for Enterprise Holdings said: “There's quite a bit of buzz about electric cars and customers already are asking us when we're going to get them.”

Rental costs have not been announced, but are expected to be a premium price.
