Castrol Rankings place Britain top in run up to Silverstone

Britain’s drivers sit atop the motorsport world in the week running up to the British GP, according to the Castrol Driver Rankings.

The performances of Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, and two-time IndyCar champion Dario Franchitti this year means Britain currently leads the Nations’ Rankings from Australia, Germany, USA and France.

The efforts of Hamilton and his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button have been central to Britain’s success this year.

The pair are both in contention for the F1 crown as the field heads to Silverstone this weekend for the British Grand Prix.

Hamilton has been one of the star performers in F1 this year taking two grand prix wins and a string of points finishes to climb up from 11th place to second in the Castrol Rankings.

He has a great chance of taking the top spot from Sebastian Vettel this weekend as any finish higher than 15th will boost his current score.

The Red Bull driver, however, will lose ground if he comes home lower than second because of his victory at the Northamptonshire circuit last year.

Britain’s second highest-ranked driver is currently IndyCar Champion Dario Franchitti, who overtook Button for seventh place this week, and is building another solid title push in the US-based series.

F1 world champion Button though, needs only to beat his fifth place in the corresponding race last year to overhaul the Scotsman.

Podium finishes in his last three races mean there is a good chance he will do just that in front of his home crowd.

The Castrol Driver Rankings rate the world’s best drivers based on their performances over the last 12 months to establish who the best driver in the world is.

The Nations’ Rankings combine the scores of each country’s two highest-ranked drivers to determine which is performing best.
